The following leagues are available at the Cochrane Curling Club:
Monday Night Ladies
- Total points for the season (tracked in “Standings”)
- Head to head for that round
- Wins and losses against that opponent through the season
- Teams will be placed evenly into 2 groups of 8 based on last year’s points*
- Provides Seeding for Round Robin 2
- *A and B at this point is arbitrary, simply that our system cannot label “Group 1 and 2”
- Reset points going into Round Robin 2
- The 4 teams in each group with the highest points after Round Robin 1 will form
Pool A - The 4 teams in each group with the lowest points after Round Robin 1 will form
Pool B - Reset points at end of Round Robin 2
- Teams split into 4 pools A, B, C, D, based on points from Round Robin 2
- Reset points at end of pool play 1
- Shuffle one team up, one team down per pool based on points from Pool Play 1
- A moves to B
- B moves to A
- C moves to D
- D moves to C
- Points determine next two weeks of play
- March 15 1v4, 2v3 per pool
- March 22: 1v2, 3v4 per pool
- Want to change it up? If both teams agree to a change in format on the final night who are NOT competing for the Pool A championship, feel free to mix it up! Options include:
- Wacky scoring
- All players play a new position
- Player swap
- Skins game
- 4- or 6-end game
- Clockwise only vs Counter clockwise only
- No hits allowed
- The options are endless!!
- Curling Alberta Club Championships presented by Original 16
- Points accumulated throughout the season will be recorded with the TWO teams with the most accumulated points by February 15, 2027 having the opportunity to attend the Provincial Club Qualifying event (March 4-7 in Okotoks). Should one or both teams win a pool at the qualifying event, they will have the opportunity to attend the Alberta Club Provincial Championships (March 31-April 4 in Cochrane). Once a team has been declared, no roster alterations are permitted.
- Should a team be unable to commit, the next runner up will be invited to attend.
- Calgary and Area City Championships
- The team declared as league champion AFTER our last day of play (March 22, 2027) will have the opportunity to attend this event (typically held in early April). This is a single knockout event and is a great way to represent our club in the Calgary area!
- Should the league champion team be unable to attend, the next runner up will be invited to attend. Teams are able to change rosters as needed to create a full team.

Sunday Night Open Doubles
2025 - 2026 Infomation - NEW - Moved to Sunday Nights at 6:15 - Playing Double Headers every 2nd Sunday
Sunday Night Open Doubles League teams compete together throughout the curling season in a round-robin format. Entries are two person teams. Final standings are based on points accumulated over the entire season. Total points will determine the Open Doubles Club Champions at the end of the season.
Sunday Open Doubles League starts Oct 19,2025. Games will be every 2nd Sunday and will be double headers starting at 6:15 and then again at 8 PM. Games before Christmas will be Oct 19; Nov 2; Nov 16; Nov 30 and Dec 14. Play returns on Jan 4, 2026. Games after Christmas will be Jan 4; Jan 18; Feb 1; Feb 15; Mar 1; and Mar 15.
The cost for this league is $734 per team, or $367 per person for a 2 person team, plus a one time membership fee per player of $48 for Curling Club overhead, and $22 for Curling Alberta/Curling Canada fees. You only pay the extra fees once per season regardless of the number of teams you play on.

Friday Night Open
2026/2027 Friday Night Open League Format will be as follows:
All 18 teams will play each other once in a seeding round. The points from those 17 games will determine what pool your team will land for the short two-week playoff. You get 2 points for a Win; 1 point for a Tie and 0 points for a Loss.
After our 17-week round robin, the Top 4 Teams will be placed into A; next 4 Teams will be placed into B; the next 4 teams will be placed into C and the remaining 6 teams will be placed into D.
Week 18 –
The 4 teams in A will play off against each other 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3
The 4 teams in B will play off against each other 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3
The 4 teams in C will play off against each other 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3
D teams will play another week of round robin (random scheduling)
Week 19 –
The two winners in A from week 18 will play off to determine the A champion (the two losers in A from week 18 will play against each other)
The two winners in B from week 18 will play off to determine the B champion (the two losers in B from week 18 will play against each other)
The two winners in C from week 18 will play off to determine the C champion (the two losers in C from week 18 will play against each other)
D teams will play another week of round robin (random scheduling)
After the week 19 game everyone is invited to come upstairs for drinks and trophy presentations. (More information to follow)

Draw is now posted on the Cochrane Curling Club website. To make it as fair as possible, no team will play more than 6 late draws in 17 weeks of play. A couple of teams have back-to-back late draws but ended up with less late draws overall.

Curling abilities vary between beginners, who are just starting, to knowledgeable experienced curlers. Individuals can sign up and any male 50 years or older may enter. Curlers can register to play once a week or twice a week. The fall session runs from mid October to mid December (11 draws). Players can re-register after December as new teams are chosen for the winter session. The winter session runs from January to mid March (11 draws). Prior to each session, a draft is held and teams are selected by designated skips. Skips are generally chosen from the previous year, however, anyone wanting to skip can contact the league coordinator and submit your request.

Cochrane Sturling Social League - Oct. - Dec.
Sturling Curling is open to curlers of all ages and abilities. By allowing both stick and hack deliveries, all individuals can participate in a fast-paced game. Unlike traditional curling, Sturling teams need only two players - each player throws six rocks (three ends each) for a total of six ends. Sturling involves less sweeping than traditional curling as there is no sweeping between the hog lines. The game is designed for continuous play, with each player actively involved in shot-making and strategic thinking. More information can be found at www.sturling.net. Please note the SLS Center is user-friendly for wheelchair curlers.
Please make sure you have non-slip shoes or grippers on both feet! If you have any concerns about falling, protective head gear as well as other curling equipment, is available at the SLS Center. You can contact Morgan Muise at MMuise@slscentre.com for further information or you can drop by the office when you are at the rink.
The Sturling Team and Social Leagues started October 2, 2026, and the last day of regular play before Christmas is December 11, 2026. If you don’t have a partner, you can register in the Social League and we’ll find a partner for you.
The Executive requires a $15 social fee from each player in both the Team and Social Leagues for both the fall and winter sessions. If you curl in both leagues, the social fee is $20 per person ($5 increase). 100% of these social fees are used to pay for our Funspiel meal and the prizes for league play and the Funspiel bonspiel. The Funspiel is held on the last Friday of curling of each season.

We are a non-competitive league that meets Mondays from 10 to noon and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30. We welcome all curlers, particularly those curlers who haven’t curled in many years and want to get back into curling for the exercise. And we want to encourage want-to-be curlers with no or limited experience to join us too. We curl with four member-teams usually for 8 ends. We form different teams for each of the fall and winter curling semesters. If you prefer to spare, we would like to hear from you too. We offer on the ice training for beginners! We hold a banquet at the end of the season.

Goodtimers Monday Open League - Jan. - Mar.
The Goodtimers League is a fun league that moved from the Calgary Winter Club to the Cochrane Curling Club. We are a mixed league mostly composed of retired and semi-retired men and women at all skill levels (stick or hack) who enjoy curling simply for the joy of curling and being social. We are a non-competitive league that meets Mondays from 10 to noon and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30. We welcome all curlers, particularly those curlers who haven’t curled in many years and want to get back into curling for the exercise. And we want to encourage want-to-be curlers with no or limited experience to join us too. We curl with four member-teams usually for 8 ends. We form different teams for each of the fall and winter curling semesters. If you prefer to spare, we would like to hear from you too. We offer on the ice training for beginners! We hold a banquet at the end of the season.

League Dates
- First Game: Monday, October 19, 2026
- Last Regular Match: Monday, March 22, 2027
- No Curling: December 28, 2026
League Format
12 Teams • 22 Weeks
Weeks 1-11: Round Robin
- Full round robin format.
- Every team plays every other team once.
Weeks 12-16: A & B Divisions
- Teams will be divided into two pools:
- A Division: Top 6 teams based on points.
- B Division: Bottom 6 teams based on points.
- Head-to-head results will be used as the first tiebreaker if teams are tied in points.
Weeks 17-21: Re-Seeding
- Teams will be re-seeded using cumulative season points.
- Play continues within A and B divisions.
- Teams at the bottom of A and top of B may move between divisions based on overall standings.
Week 22: Finals
All teams will play in placement games:
- 1 vs 2
- 3 vs 4
- 5 vs 6
- 7 vs 8
- 9 vs 10
- 11 vs 12
Final matchups will be determined by overall season points.
League Championship & Prizes
- Winner of 1 vs 2 will be crowned League Champion.
- Winner of 3 vs 4 will be awarded 3rd Place.
- Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Payouts
- 1st Place: $500
- 2nd Place: $300
- 3rd Place: $160
- B Division Winner: 4 bottles of wine
Buzzer Times
Monday Open Competitive operates within a 2 hour, 15 minute game slot.
Please note that our buzzer procedure differs from many other leagues:
- The buzzer will sound at the 1 hour, 50 minute mark (2:20 PM).
- When the buzzer sounds, teams will:
- Finish the end currently being played.
- Play one additional end.
Be Ready = Faster Games
The Monday Open Competitive League has always taken pride in being a fast-paced league. While we generally don't have trouble completing eight ends, we've reserved an additional 15 minutes of ice time each week to help ensure every team has a fair opportunity to complete full games.
Club-wide, there will be an increased emphasis on speed of play this season. You'll notice signage and reminders throughout the facility encouraging players to stay engaged and ready.

Ice Tech Scoreboard System
When arriving at your assigned sheet:
- Check the scoreboard before stepping onto the ice.
- If score numbers are still showing, the ice technicians are still preparing the sheet.
- Once the scoreboard has been cleared, your sheet is ready for play.
New This Year: No Side Boards
If you've already been down for practice ice, you've likely noticed one of the biggest changes this season: the boards are gone!
While we won't be able to prevent every rock from crossing onto an adjacent sheet, we can significantly reduce issues by working together. Please help by keeping the following in mind:
Sweepers
- Stay with your rocks until they come to a complete stop.
- This often means continuing past the hog line, especially on higher-weight shots.
Skips
- Be aware of the shot your opponents are about to play.
- If a peel, takeout, or other high-weight shot is coming, position yourself to help stop an errant rock if necessary.
- Communicate with the opposing skip beforehand.
For example, you could say: "I'll take the yellow rock." This lets the opposing skip know which rock I'm responsible for and helps ensure both sides are prepared.
Communicate
Mistakes will happen. Not every situation can be prevented, but clear communication and preparation will eliminate many potential issues and help keep everyone safe.
A Competitive Daytime League is held on Mondays at 12:30pm. This league is open to all ages and there is room for 12 teams.
The cost for this league is $1,560 per team, or $390 per person for a 4 person team, plus a one time membership fee per player of $48 for Curling Club overhead, and $22 for Curling Alberta/Curling Canada fees. You only pay the extra fees once per season regardless of the number of teams you play on. Included in your 2026/2027 fees are an additional 15 minutes of ice time and a prize package.

Sturling Curling is open to curlers of all ages and abilities. By allowing both stick and hack deliveries, all individuals can participate in a fast-paced game. Unlike traditional curling, Sturling teams need only two players - each player throws six rocks (three ends each) for a total of six ends. Sturling involves less sweeping than traditional curling as there is no sweeping between the hog lines. The game is designed for continuous play, with each player actively involved in shot-making and strategic thinking. More information can be found at www.sturling.net. Please note the SLS Center is user-friendly for wheelchair curlers.
Please make sure you have non-slip shoes or grippers on both feet! If you have any concerns about falling, protective head gear as well as other curling equipment, is available at the SLS Center. You can contact Morgan Muise at MMuise@slscentre.com for further information or you can drop by the office when you are at the rink.
The Sturling Team and Social Leagues started October 2, 2026, and the last day of regular play before Christmas was December 11, 2026. Play returns on January 8, 2027, and the last day of regular play for the season is March 12, 2027. You do not play on November 20th, 2026. The Team League starts at 12:30 PM and the Social League starts at 1:30 PM. A buzzer will sound at the 55-minute mark to signify your game stops when you complete your current end. If you have a partner, you can register in either or both leagues (Social and Team). If you don’t have a partner, you can register in the Social League and we’ll find a partner for you.
The Executive requires a $15 social fee from each player in both the Team and Social Leagues for both the fall and winter sessions. If you curl in both leagues, the social fee is $20 per person ($5 increase). 100% of these social fees are used to pay for our Funspiel meal and the prizes for league play and the Funspiel bonspiel. The Funspiel is held on the last Friday of curling of each season.
Sturling League play started at the Cochrane Curling Club during the 2014-2015 season. On March 6th, 2027, we will be holding the annual Joey Hyde-Wilson Memorial Bonspiel. Joey taught many players how to play and vigorously promoted the all-inclusive Sturling game in Cochrane.

Curl and Connect Skills Development League
The intention of this league is to provide curlers a place to take the next step in their curling journey after attending a learn to curl session. The league is entirely meant to be a place to have fun and connect with other curlers at a similar skill level, while developing upon each curler’s skills. There will be a short training/skill development component at the start of each session for approximately 10-15 minutes. Teams are mixed-up each week and there are volunteer “mentors” on the ice with you as you play to help you with skills and strategy. During the games you will rotate positions so that you can see the game from all of the curling perspectives (thrower, sweeper, line caller).
This first session will be 11 weeks on Thursdays from October 1 to December 17, 2026. Start times will alternate weekly between 6:30 PM and 8:15 PM for 1.5 hours.
Session 2 will be 11 weeks on Thursdays from January 7 to March 18, 2027. Start times will alternate weekly between 6:30 PM and 8:15 PM for 1.5 hours.

Curl and Connect Social League
This league is for members that have graduated through the Curl and Connect Skills Development path and are ready to play games without a mentor on the ice. It is designed to be a fun/social league. Games will remain at 1.5 hours and be for teams of 3 or 4 players. Scores and standings will be kept, but the focus will continue to be on community and fun through curling. This league is designed to be a steppingstone to other established leagues within the Club when curlers feel ready to transition to the next level.
Each Curl & Connect Social league team must have a majority of curlers that have graduated through the Curl & Connect Development league (2 for a team of 4; 3 for a team of 5) and at least 2 graduates must play each game. In addition, all non-graduate curlers should be at a “novice” level of curling. We ask that teams keep the spirit of the league in mind when choosing their team. The Cochrane Curling Club and the league representative reserve the right to review and remove a curler that is not aligned with the spirit of this league
This first session will be 11 weeks on Thursdays from October 1 to December 17, 2026. Start times will alternate weekly between 6:30 PM and 8:15 PM for 1.5 hours.
